I am senior researcher and lecturer in the areas of GIScience, Geoinformatics, and the Spatial Data Sciences in general. I am a computer scientist by training, with a specialization in AI and spatial data processing algorithms. I received my doctoral degree in Informatics from the University of Bremen, Germany, for a dissertation on using hierarchical Voronoi Graphs as a basis for spatial learning and reasoning in mobile robots. I have years of experience in different academic systems, including different universities in Germany and the United States, and in conducting research in multidisciplinary settings. I am now working as an independent researcher conducting freelance contract work in the following main areas:

In the interest of guaranteeing a reliable service, this website is hosted on a web server running on a EC2 virtual machine with encrypted storage that is part of Amazon Web Services (Amazon Web Services, Inc., 410 Terry Avenue North, Seattle WA 98109, USA, represented by Amazon Web Services EMEA SARL, 38 Avenue John F. Kennedy, L-1855 Luxembourg), hereinafter referred to as AWS.

AWS acts as a processor for me and is obliged to process the data in a data protection compliant manner according to the instructions in my data processing agreement with AWS. For details, please see: https://d1.awsstatic.com/legal/aws-gdpr/AWS_GDPR_DPA.pdf

The virtual machine has been set up such that when you visit our website, the processing of your data as described in Section 2 above takes place on AWS servers located in the Frankfurt (Germany) region. However, it should be noted that as a US company, AWS may also be obliged to transfer data stored on this virtual machine to the US security authorities. I cannot guarantee that data stored on the virtual machine will not be processed outside of the EU but as laid out in Section 2, the data stored on the machine does not include personal information about you.
